How to Avoid Cavities

Let’s face it: some people just get really lazy when it comes to keeping their teeth clean and shiny. It’s an absolute priority though, and you have to remember that a healthy set of teeth gets all the credit for your ability to eat delicious food. If you want to continue eating all your favorite foods, make sure to clean your teeth! Here are a couple of way on how to avoid cavities.

Brushing Your Teeth Regularly

You have to brush your teeth at least twice everyday! This is not a suggestion or recommendation - this is a fact given by dentist as a prerequisite for healthy teeth. If you don’t brush your teeth, you will definitely get cavities.

Another important factor in brushing your teeth is what you use to brush them. Make sure you find a toothpaste that is a good fit for your teeth. If you have sensitive teeth, make sure to get a toothpaste that works for you.

Whether you use an electric toothbrushes or a regular toothbrush is your choice. It’s not known whether one works better than the other. If you’re more comfortable using an electric toothbrush, then go with that one; if you want to save some money, you can stick with a regular toothbrush. The option is up to you.

If you eat or drink a lot of sweet things, you may have to start cutting back. Sweets can be really addicting, and you often can’t control yourself when it’s sitting right in front of you. You're going to have to decide what’s more important to you: sweets or having healthy teeth. Start out slow, and write down each time you eat or drink something sweet; then, you can slowly reduce the amount each week or month.

string floss

Believe it or not, your dentist was right - you do need to floss. It can be annoying and seem time consuming, but the end result is completely worth it. It is better if you use string floss rather than floss picks, but if you really are out of options, then go for the floss pick. Floss picks can cause an issue as you're using the same piece of string to clean all your teeth. This may cause bacteria to spread.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is one recommended way to clean your teeth. Not only can it prevent cavities, as a bonus, it can even help your bad breath. It’s recommended to do this twice a day, but once a day is also fine. You only need a tablespoon of coconut oil each time. It might feel weird at first, but you’ll get used to it.

Finally, don't forget to go to the dentist for regular check ups. If you already have a cavity, you want to make sure that it doesn’t spread even further, or worse - result in a root canal.

Cleaning your teeth may be tiresome, but getting a cavity can be even more tiresome. Not only are cavities painful, they can even cause you to lose your teeth. Think of the potential consequences before you think of skipping your daily teeth cleaning routine!
