How to Count Macros

If you spend any time in a gym, or simply know people interested in building muscle one way or another, you've likely heard about the Macro Diet. It might seem confusing, at first, and it doesn't make much sense. What is the Macro Diet? And, to a lesser extent, how to count macros, exactly? Don't worry, it's not as difficult or outlandish as it might seem! In fact, it could very well be the diet you've been looking for.

What Are Macronutrients?

There are three major nutrients that you look to include when you start the Macro Diet. These are protein, carbohydrates, and fat. That may not make much sense at first. It's been drilled into our heads that carbs and fat are bad. That's wrong! In fact, you need both in order to remain healthy. The secret? Choosing the right sources of carbs and fat to include in your diet. It can be tricky, but it can be done!

What Are the Benefits?

The benefits of using this diet is that it is the perfect diet for those who are looking to build muscle. It's also great for those who are simply trying to lose weight. However, if you're on the Macro Diet to lose weight, you'll also need to keep track of your calories. This is also a good diet for those who have the body that they want, but are looking to maintain it.

Proteins

Protein is one of the major macronutrients that you will need to eat on this diet. Now, this doesn't mean just going crazy on anything meaty. You need to choose healthy options to get your protein from. Lean cuts of beef are a good choice. So is poultry. Fatty fishes, such as salmon, pack a good deal of protein, and are very healthy. For those who don't eat meat, try other sources, such as eggs, nuts, or beans.

Fats

For some, this makes no sense. After all, aren't you supposed to cut fat out of a diet? Absolutely not! Instead, replace bad fats, such as sweets, with good fats, such as olive oil. Oils are a great way to add healthy fat to your diet. Avocado is another good choice, providing healthy fats along with tasty food. Macadamia nuts make great snacks, and great sources of healthy fat. Whether it's a drizzle of oil on a salad or a sandwich spread with avocado, get your fats!

Carbohydrates

This is something that most people are taught to avoid. Carbs are bad, right? Nope! Carbs are good for you, if you get them from the right sources. This means not relying on bread and pasta for your daily dose. Instead, go with healthier choices. Leafy greens, such as spinach and kale, have carbohydrates. Broccoli and cauliflower have a good bit, as well. Green beans, onions, potatoes, squash. There are a lot of healthy way to get your carbs!

Counting macros doesn't have to be difficult. With a bit of effort, and a good plan, you can succeed on the Macro Diet.
