How to Do the Slow Carb Diet

A slow carb diet is a diet that consists only of eating lean meats, vegetables, and beans. It is a diet made famous by Tim Ferriss in his book - "The 4-Hour Body". One of the interest parts of this diet is the ‘cheat day’ that you get to take to spike your metabolism. How it Works


A slow card diet helps burn the fat in your body extremely quickly. Normally, the food we eat is stored as fat until we need to use it. When we eat too much of these kinds of foods, it can take us over our storage limit. The slow card diet aims to burn all the extra fat that you have in your body. On your ‘cheat day’, the shock of eating such high calories and carbs ensures your metabolism does not drop too low.



One of the main focuses of the slow carb diet is beans. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that beans are just an option in this diet. It's not! It’s a must. You don’t have to eat them for every meal, but you need to eat them once everyday or at least every other day. You might not be getting the amount of calories your body needs to become fully energized otherwise. Beans and legumes can help raise your energy level.



Chicken breast or thigh are also very common meats that you’ll be eating during this diet, so make sure that you actually like chicken before starting this diet. Another kind of meat you can eat is beef. Try buying those that have been grass-fed. You can also eat pork (without the fat/skin). Fish is also a good alternative if you prefer it over red meat. 



You can pretty much eat any kind of vegetable; just check it online or in your book if you’re not sure. Veggies like broccoli, peas, green beans, spinach, cauliflower, even kimchi is great to eat. They are highly suggested!



Like any other day, you'll need to drink lots of water. You can drink other beverages, but you need to make sure they have no calories in them. For example, you can add lemon in water and make lemonade (without sugar), wine, unsweetened tea, and coffee. Limit yourself to a few of these as you don’t want to go overboard. You can drink as much lemon water as you want though!

What NOT to Eat


Here are a list of things you CAN’T eat during the 6 days of the week: Rice, corn, quinoa, flour, potatoes, fried foods, sugared or drinks with calories. You also can’t eat any fruits. 

The best part of this diet is definitely the results. Many have been able to achieve incredible feats on this diet, including losing weight, burning fat, or just feeling healthier. If you are looking for a way to lose some extra fat or weight for the holidays, this may be an interesting diet to try. It might not be for everyone, but it doesn’t hurt to try as long as you stay safe and healthy!
