Lyme Disease is a type of bacterial infected that can be transmitted through ticks. The bacteria that causes it,  Borrelia burgdoferi, is normally found in the little pests. When a tick bites a person, it can travel to them, causing an infection known a Lyme Disease. Lyme Disease is very common affecting more than 200,000 people in the United States every year; it's also not a very serious problem, though it does require medical treatment.

The most well-known symptom of Lyme Disease is its trademark “bullseye” rash. This rash is normally found around the sight of infection, and has a bullseye look to it. The inner will be red, there will be a round band of plain skin, then there will be a band of red skin. You may also experience flu-like symptoms, including pain in the joints or muscles; fatigue; fever; and joint stiffness an swelling.

Causes

The cause of Lyme Disease is a simple tick bite. In some places, a great deal of ticks carry the bacteria which causes Lyme Disease,  Borrelia burgdoferi. In others, only a few. When a tick bites a person, it transmits the bacteria into their blood stream, causing the infection. This, in turn, causes the symptoms that we've listed above. Your best bet at avoiding this disease is by not letting ticks bite you.

Getting Diagnosed

You'll need to head to the doctor. There, he or she will likely examine you for the more obvious signs (fever, the rash, joint swelling), as well as draw blood for a test to determine for sure if you have Lyme Disease. The doctor will also be the one to prescribe the medication that you'll need to start your recovery from Lyme Disease. This illness is best caught early, so go in as soon as you can.

Treatments

pills in hand

Normally, Lyme Disease can be cleared up quickly and easily with just a round of antibiotics. Your doctor will likely give these to you when your test for Lyme Disease comes back that you indeed have it. You may be prescribed some medication to deal with the pain, or you may simply choose to use some over the counter pain relievers to help with the pain, swelling, and fever, to keep you comfortable.

Lyme Disease isn't a very good thing to find out you have. It can cause pain, fever, and an infection that will leave you feeling poorly, at best. But, thankfully, it's curable with a round of antibiotics, and the pain can easily be treated.
