In today's modern world, many people are trying increasingly bizarre diets in an effort to be healthier and lose weight. Whether that means noshing on nothing but baby food, bananas, broccoli, sugar-free pudding or cabbage, people are desperate to shed those extra pounds and inches. But there's been another diet that is quickly powering its way to the front of the line in terms of workable, natural meal plans: The Paleo Diet. What is the Paleo Diet?

The Paleo Diet is a new eating plan that focuses on returning humans to the diet that they would normally receive in nature. This means that you only eat things that our ancient ancestors would have eaten, namely wild greens, seafood, and red meat.

This is a more natural solution that will help you lose weight by taking unnatural, refined foods out of your dietary repertoire and replace it with natural, good-for-you options.

What Should You Eat?

As with your ancient human ancestors, you shouldn't eat anything that you couldn't pick from the ground or hunt for yourself. This means, namely, that you will be eating mostly fruits, vegetables, shellfish, and red meat. The largest portion of your meals will be veggie-based, and should also include a good source of protein.

Your protein should be something good for you, though you don't always have to choose lean options.

What Should You Avoid?

The most obvious foods that you should avoid are refined ones. This includes foods such as snack cakes, cookies, chips, soda, and almost any other junk food out there. But beyond that, you'll also be cutting out refined grains such as cereal, white breads, refined pasta, and other foods that you wouldn't naturally find in a human diet.

A word of caution, however:  Do not completely cut carbohydrates!

Paleo Breakfasts

It may seem like breakfast is the hardest meal of the day to be on this diet. After all, most normal breakfast foods are loaded with foods that you can't eat on this diet.

However, there are a number of delicious Paleo-friendly options that you can choose for breakfast. Try a smoothie made of your favorite fruits, milk, and nuts. Or make yourself a breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, bacon, and a low-carb tortilla.

Paleo Lunches

When it comes to lunches, people want something that can travel easily and be prepared ahead of time. This is especially important when it comes to a diet such as this one. Thankfully, Paleo diet lunches are perhaps the easiest to work with.

Make pinwheels out of low-carb tortillas, lunch meat, and sliced cheese. Or pack a salad with a generous helping of walnuts. You can even snack on the fly by eating beef jerky and an apple!

Paleo Dinners

When choosing a Paleo dinner, you want to choose foods that will keep you full throughout the night, so that you don't wake up absolutely ravenous the next morning. The best way to go about that is to fill out your plates with fiber-rich foods. Serve a seafood salad, topped with nuts, seeds, and shrimp. Or try a fajita dinner with steak, peppers, tomatoes, and a low-carb tortilla.

Many say the Paleo Diet is the best diet as it is the most reflective of our ancestors and our past; not ony that, it's easy to follow. With a little bit of a work and pre-planning, you'll tackle it in no time!
